I have come up with the entire outline for my story by rereading my script, as well as some additions of movements that I felt were important to present to capture the message and tone of the film that I want to create:
Act 1:
- An opening shot of Mariposa's house is seen, the camera travelling through the different rooms and seeing the different pills in her cabinet
- Audience finds Mariposa going on about her usual morning routine: singing a song while doing so, opening the fridge to see only three items : rice, peanut butter and some carrots. Her table is full of vitamins and the calendar marking her birthday.
- The phone rings, with their friends asking to go out and eat for her upcoming birthday, she refusing
- Inciting Incident: Her Dad calls and confronts her about how she is doing, while she seems happy and with a note to try eating "crunchy PB" next, she lies about fully being recovered to receive praise for him
- Plot Point One: Mariposa is seen throwing her pills away, messages of encouragements and cancelling treatment appointments, closing with a shot of another day being marked in the calendar
Act 2:
- Cuts directly to Mariposa being in the supermarket, wondering through the aisles with a anxious face and a list titled "foods that NORMAL people can eat w/o freaking out"
- She starts grabbing all of items of the list, trembling either out of fear or the coldness of the industrial freezers
- Walking to the checkout, people seem to be whispering and talking about her, anxiously looking to her cart full of food, compared to her usual three items
- Again there is a cut to her in the kitchen, prepping a plate of beans with rice, some broccoli and a grilled chicken breast.
- Midpoint: Mariposa is seen staring down to the plate, showing from a low angle, the table feels like is shaking, seen in the camera movement, and while focusing on her taking the bite to her mouth, cutting to her throwing the food away to the trash
- Multiple days of her food and plates are seen, in a montage, with a voiceover of how she is making excuses to not go to work or do anything else than concentrate in trying to eat her foods with the same result
- Plot Point Two: She tries once again, a portion severely reduced, now hearing all of the coming thoughts from Mariposa and the plate becoming more and more grotesque as each new look is made
Act 3:
- This action continues, until Mariposa gives up once more, leaving the plate of food on the table and going to bed, not before marking the calendar as one day before her birthday
- The phone continues to ring on their side, ignoring it, now seeing the father's face for the first time, getting ready to go and drive where she is
- He gets there, getting the door opened by Mariposa, seeing her from a high angle, looking tired and surprised for him to be there, while looking up in a low angle.
- Her Dad goes over her, now looking down at the table where the food is, looking everything back to normal, different to the gray color and shaky movement it had before
- Climax: With her still in a catatonic-like state, the Dad tries to know what is going on. Mariposa cannot hold it anymore and tells the truth
- The dad and Mariposa are seen hugging, Mariposa calming down and returning to a "regular" perspective, hearing the Dad in a voiceover talking to others about the situation and getting her back in treatment, the next day is seen
- Payoff: In her birthday, spends it mostly in her house, seemingly more happy by having support, getting ready to have some crunchy PB
- Resolution: The singing of happy birthday is heard, while the scene closes with her putting the spoon in her mouth
needed in one platform.
